Riders will travel from the Shannon Airport to their hotel. Join your riding companions for dinner after you’ve settled into your hotel room.
Riders will join their expert riding instructor 10:00 AM at the Meyrick Hotel in Galway. Your riding adventure will start at Shannadonnell and will continue across Willie’s Mountain. You will enjoy a delicious lunch beside a dreamy mountain lake while the horses are free to rest and graze. After, you will venture on horseback to the village of Carna, followed by the exploration Willie’s beach house. While the horses are left in the pasture to rest near the the beach house or the evening, you will be driven to your inn for the night.
This day is filled with unforgettable memories of riding on the coast, beginning with ride along the mesmerizing shore of Mweenish Beach! Mweenish and Mannin Bays are popular breeding sites for common seals as they are often spotted in these sheltered waters, so keep an eye out for these unforgettable creatures! Relaxing on the shore, these seals are almost motionless, waiting for the tide to carry them in to the sea. After a quick swim with your horse, riders will stop for lunch and then ride along the beach on the other side of the island to enjoy the gorgeous Aran Islands.
Our trek will begin with a refreshing ride to Finish Island, if the tide permits. The unique Finish Island is filled with the ruins of historic houses, stone walls, and ancient roads used long ago. Should the weather permit, advanced riders may have the opportunity to jump some of its walls. Rider and horse will wade through the sea and trek further into the mountain after making their way past the coast. You will break for lunch in the picturesque mountains situated just above the village of Kilkerrin with spectacular views of the Finish Island coastline. After lunch, your ride continues along an abandoned quarry through forests and stacks of peat before ending the day at Derryrush.
After the evening Derryrush, you will ride to the 19th century sporting Screebe Lodge to Letter Moir. Lunch will be enjoyed at the base of the mountain range and after, you will continue through a mountain village where there may be the chance visit a quaint farm cottage to see classic Irish furnishings. During the afternoon, you will venture over a mountain top with an unforgettable view as the sun sets over rolling bogs, valleys, and the mesmerizing coastline. Your ride will end in Shanafeistin by early evening where riders will be brought to the Oughterard to spend the night.
After breakfast, riders will enjoy a nice trot alongside forest roads before stopping for lunch. The ride will end with a breathtaking view of Lough Corrib before stopping in Oughterard for night. For riders who enjoy long canters, this is a fun ride through flourishing forests and gravel tracks filled with long stretches of riding time!
This ride will bring you to the Dartfield Horse Museum. The only one of its kind in the world, the Dartfield Horse Museum is dedicated to the Irish horse and pony breeds. After, you will be venture the trails surrounding the museum, or improve your skill on the cross country course! This event course has fences suitable for all riding levels ranging from beginner to the advanced giving all riders the opportunity to have fun and improve their skills. Loughrea is your stopping place for the evening. If necessary, you will be transferred to Galway City on Sunday morning.
Riders will depart after breakfast. The itinerary is flexible subject to change depending upon tide time and weather conditions.
